Saturday snapshot – April 28th. 2012

Today I have two pictures taken last night. They were both taken with the camera on a tripod using a remote control and mirror lock up to get as little vibration as possible on a low ISO (100) and long shutter time (8 and 13 seconds). I’m trying to learn how to take good night pictures, and I’m definitely better at it than I was a few months ago. Still, most of the pictures taken last night were not worth keeping, mostly because of vibration or wrong exposure.

What was left of sunset over ErdalWhen I started out the sky was clear, but then some light clouds came along and actually made this shot a lot cooler than the previous clear ones.

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme you must post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken and then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky at that Saturdays Snapshot post at At Home With Books. Photos can be old or new, and can be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. All Alyce asks is that you don’t post random photos that you find online.

  1. I have a lot to learn about photography, but I love these shots! The moon set against the clouds looks like a painting…it would look great as a book cover. A book about ghosts, werewolves, etc. lol

Thanks for sharing. Here’s MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT

  2. Spectacular! I’m a night person but my night photos are never any good. Except, a year ago I was patient and persistent while on the Brooklyn Bridge at night and I got some good ones. But it was pure luck. Expertise did not enter into it.

  3. That looks like some fun experimenting! I thought at first the glow in the distance in the first photo was a distant city. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a dark sky with just a bit of sunset left like that before.

    • That’s the way I used to do it, and it was mostly miss. More fun and more hits now that I’m starting to know what I’m doing :-)
