A bunch of us readers are sharing the first lines of a book and we all link up at the Linky at A Few More Pages.

Right now I’m reading Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. I’m enjoying myself a lot.

And this is how it begins:

This is a tale of a meeting of two lonesome, skinny, fairly old white men on a planet that was dying fast.

One of them was a science-fiction writer named Kilgore Trout. He was a nobody at the time, and he supposed his life was over. He was mistaken. As a consequense of the meeting, he became one of the most beloved and respected human beings in history.

The man he met was an automobile dealer, a Pontiac dealer named Dwayne Hoover. Dwayne Hoover was on the brink of going insane.

  1. Hi Eva,

I have to say right off, that I don’t read science fiction at all and never have done.

Having said that, your opening lines were very intiguing and piqued my interest enough for me to research both the book and the author some more.

The author sounds like such an eccentric character and the synopsis of this particular book only backs this up, with its quirky theme and the way in which it is presented.

I hope that you enjoy it and I shall be interested in your views about it.

    Have a great weekend.

    Yvonne
