Book beginnings on Friday – February 10th. 2012

A bunch of us readers are sharing the first lines of a book and we all link up at the Linky at A Few More Pages.

Right now I’ve finally gotten around to reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It’s been sitting in Mount TBR for way too long, so it’s about time.

Here goes:

The knife had a handle of polished black bone, and a blade finer and sharper than any razor. If it sliced you, you might not even know you had been cut, not immediately.

The knife had done almost everything it was brought to that house to do, and both the blade and the handle were wet.

Right now I’m on page 77 and it’s still good.

  1. A knife that has served it’s purpose! Scary! Haven’t read anything by Gaiman, would like to try him. Thanks for stopping by! Happy weekend!

  2. Hi Eva,

What some great opening lines, although they did make me wonder if I was really reading something from a children’s book. They are so descriptive and spooky, however I guess that is nothing when you consider that this child has been raised by ghosts and spectres.

This book has some real possibilities and is from such a popular and esteemed writer, who to my shame, I have never read, that it really does need to make it onto my reading list.

Thanks for highlighting such a popular book, which I might otherwise have overlooked.

    Have a good weekend,
    Yvonne
